Mayor Tom Tate Raises the Curtain with Meera

“isn’t it wonderful that Aarti is able to bring the love and the colourfulness of Rajasthan to right here on the Gold Coast?”

When you wrap it all up, and you look at the performers that came through, I reflect on the colourfulness that came through when Ruth [Tate] and I visited Rajasthan. I was just talking to her: “did you know that it’s been 5 years since we were in India?” – to both our surprise, time goes so quickly.  But isn’t it wonderful that Aarti is able to bring the love and the colourfulness of Rajasthan to right here on the Gold Coast? Encourage 300 performers and workers to come together as one to present this project? It’s a marvel to learn that it’s been 14 years in the making, and the last 18 months, they’ve been so flat out, my congratulations to Aarti and her executive team.

I can’t but feel so proud how far our city has come in a cultural scene, and [have] absolutely hit the mark in pushing ahead with the Home of the Arts The Next Stage. Sharing of the Meera Project and stage production I absolutely will be putting on our Facebook, and it’s not just saying it, to see how much work, love, and effort has been put in, for me really, it’s essential Gold Coast. That we are a multicultural society, that everyone here are welcome, and [that we] start with our indigenous people – who shared our culture from ever since I was Mayor. The first thing the elders said to me: “We’re here to share our culture”.

And with that, as I look throughout our multicultural community, everyone’s on the same page there. What it means? The love is going to shine brightly on the Gold Coast – especially in a cultural scene. So my congratulations firstly to Aarti and the production team, I would also like to congratulate Bond University for getting behind this, and all the other sponsors. I look forward to the production, I absolutely will enjoy it.
